Classic Country House Overlooking Golf Course
Classic Country House Overlooking Golf Course
When we create a new home that is classical in its appearance, it is vital that the property looks like it has always belonged within its setting.
For this project in, we at Des Ewing Residential Architects chose Witton Fell sandstone, which is in keeping with the materials used in local properties for centuries. The sandstone sits atop a matching granite base to make it more hardwearing. Specialist stonemasons McConnell & Sons helped us create an appearance that is at one with the landscape and befitting the property’s classical style.
Having used stone for the main property and coach house, which is adjoined by a stonework arcade, we also brought interesting stonework inside the 16,000 sqft property. The interior is colourful and modern, with unusual and intricate tiling. The feature staircase - inspired by the staircase at Fortnum & Mason - is in cantilevered Portland stone, with a polished stainless-steel handrail, while the hallway features Portuguese marble.
The result is a home that has a classical architectural style and is grounded in its environment, yet contemporary in its detailing and finish. The stonework, golf course views and, beyond that, a panorama of rugged hills make this a distinctive country house.
