Sanatorium Buildings Converted into Residential Development in the Grounds of Campbell College

Converting the historic sanatorium buildings at Campbell College into a residential development was a unique and challenging project. While the buildings themselves were not protected, the surrounding trees were, creating a very tight area in which to work. Despite these constraints, we chose to preserve the unique character of the existing structures.

This decision required us to work within the original footprint of the buildings, adding complexity to the project. Rather than attempting to mimic the traditional brickwork of the old infirmary, the matron's house, and other attached buildings, we opted for a series of modern extensions. This approach allowed us to enhance the architectural integrity of the site while introducing contemporary design elements.

The modern extensions provide a striking contrast to the historic buildings, creating a visually appealing blend of old and new. This design choice not only respects the heritage of the original structures but also introduces functional, modern living spaces that meet today's standards.

The result is a harmonious residential development that preserves the unique character of the sanatorium buildings while integrating modern architectural elements. The careful consideration of the protected trees and the thoughtful design solutions employed demonstrate our commitment to sustainable and sensitive development.

Discover the innovative transformation of the sanatorium buildings at Campbell College, where historical preservation meets modern living. The combination of preserved structures and contemporary extensions creates a unique and appealing residential environment that honors the past while embracing the future.
