The Rea Project
The Rea Project
This newly built coastal residence is a masterpiece of design, featuring a striking facade clad in handcrafted burnt wood, created by the skilled artisans at Toasted Wood in rural Ireland. The charred wood, achieved through an ancient Japanese technique, is both a visual marvel and a testament to durability. Toasted Wood’s innovative process involves carefully charring the surface to caramelise the cellulose sugars while preserving the lignin within. The result? A uniquely robust material that’s resistant to rot, weathering, and insect damage—perfect for coastal environments. Additionally, the charring enhances fire resistance, adding a timeless yet functional layer of protection to the home’s exterior. The dramatic burnt wood cladding contrasts beautifully with the sleek, Scandinavian-inspired interior. The minimalist design features cool, contemporary elements, such as striking black kitchen accents that complement the home's understated elegance. This contrast between the rustic, textured exterior and the refined, modern interior creates a captivating harmony of natural warmth and urban sophistication. The Rea Project stands as a perfect balance of artisanal craftsmanship and cutting-edge design, offering a home that’s both visually stunning and resilient against the elements. This unique retreat by the sea embodies a seamless blend of tradition, innovation, and timeless style.
